Movie Review: Farmageddon - The Unseen War On Family Farms

Last night I was browsing on Netflix for something interesting to watch. I've gone through all the drama series that are of interest to me and one of the pains of Netflix is that once you get through the episodes you have no idea when the next season will become available. Can be very frustrating for say Breaking Bad or Sons of Anarchy fans! Just sayin'.

I didn't want to get sucked in to a new show and decided to take a look at the latest documentaries available. I saw this one: Farmageddon - The Unseen War on American Family Farms. I'm glad I did. It was extremely interesting and I learned a lot about the struggles our local farmers are facing.

The documentary essentially interviewed several farmers through out the country as well as food co-ops. It highlighted some of the governmental rules and regulations that are in place and vary state to state. It also demonstrated the way in which we are sometimes not allowed to choose what we feel is healthy to consume. And in some areas, certain foods (raw milk in particular) are even illegal!

This is definitely a must watch for anyone who is interested in real foods. I have been purchasing food from local markets for a few years now and I only recently have been introduced to the concept of real milk and dairy products using real milk. Since I tend to follow a traditional paleo diet, I keep my dairy intake to a minimum. However, I don't have an adverse affect to dairy. This has allowed me to introduce certain dishes or foods that use dairy.

This documentary really gets in to the struggles and highlights the benefits of using local farmers for our food. If you don't have Netflix, get it here.
